It dawned on me the other nite after visting a club in Liverpool called Blue Angel the homogeneity of British mainstream cultural life (in terms of going out as a student/young person). About 75% of the Girls had Jeans, Black Strappy Tops, and Long, Straight Shoulder Length Hair. The porportion of Boys had Jeans, T-Shirts and Spikey-ish hair (gareth gates/ david beckham style). Everybody got drunk, struggled to talk over the booming dance/pop/cheese (delete as appropriate) and danced badly. Its a mockery of entertainment, given the pioneering nature of British youth culture in the past: the 60's, madchester, punk et al. Now its fucking cheese night at RSVP. Given my toker bias, this could be ignored. The alternative is to go to a 'rock' club which is exactly the same but with moshers, which I consider even worse. Disturbed, ironically is the word.
